The apartment is located right on Dam Square in the centre of Amsterdam. Dam Square is where the Amstel River was dammed during the 13th Century and is coincidently where the city gets its name. Today the Dam is a popular meeting spot, bustling with tourists and locals and home to such attractions as Madame Tussauds wax museum, the New Church, the National Monument and the impressive Royal Palace a must visit on any trip to Amsterdam. Dam Square and the surrounding area is also home to department stores, restaurants, cafes, bars and specialist shops. Not far from Dam Square is China Town with its large array of international restaurants, New Market with the flea market and stunning 15th century De Waag, and the infamous Red Light District. On the other side of the square you can find the nine streets shopping district, home to numerous boutiques, restaurants and cafes. It is a great place to retreat to after a day out exploring the Old City and the nearby World Heritage Central Canal Belt.
